The Plan

I am starting to think that genius of the iPhone is not in the hardware or software. Apple is often credited with how well the can vertical integrate a product, think (iPod+iTunes = buy, sync, play) all in one place.

It’s a pretty big deal(Anchormanism) that Apple was able to convince EMI to go DRM-free and I think that what we will see from AT&T in terms of a voice & data plan will be something that we have never seen before. What is the worst part of your cellular phone experience right now? Yes, the phones are terrible, but the customer service and voice & data plans are worse. Apple is an advocate of simple solutions for their customers. Regardless, of how much of a hit the product innovation of the iPhone is, the plan and customer experience is where we really need innovation.

Research

Macworld and CNBC have notes from Apple’s shareholder meeting which took place today.

In it Steve Jobs fielded various questions covering the backdating stock options, Fred Anderson, Greenpeace and the iPhone. Some of the interesting tidbits:

• “Leopard will be worth the wait” – Steve Jobs
• “When a shareholder asked Jobs for high-definition video content on iTunes and asked if his Apple TV could allow him to rent movies, the CEO smiled. ‘One never knows,’ he said cryptically.”
• “Regarding .Mac, Jobs admitted that Apple’s suite of online services hasn’t achieved its full potential, but said the company was working on it.”
• Regarding a decreasing research budget, Jobs said research is a lot more about people and quality engineers than it is about the money. “I wish developing great products was as easy as writing a check,” said Jobs. If that were the case, Microsoft would have some great products.”

iTunes is no longer just for Tunes

The iPhone and iTunes will the be the first phone and software program to finally easily and intuitively sync up your PC to your phone.

The new iTunes 7 is a great example of what is to come.

Future of Web Apps Conference

A scene into the future of computing? Not sure, but this is a great photo by Thomas Hawk.

Note to Apple: Your MacBooks are sorry, fix them.

Seriously

Can someone give me an idea of when MS Office for Mac will go Universal Binary? I have been swiming in .xls files lately and excel and word both love to just quit on me.

Is this what the big news about Google’s CEO going on Apple’s board is all about? Is Apple planning on rolling out Google tools for their enterprise users?

Why is it taking so long to port Office for Mac to UB anyway?

Am I asking too many questions?
